HSE finds unsafe building sites in North London

Workers may seek compensation after building sites deemed unsafe 2667

A day of inspections by the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) revealed almost half of the refurbishment building projects in the Stamford Hill region were found to have safety failings.

It was noted that enforcement action was required at 9 of the 22 sites visited by the HSE team in the south Tottenham, north Hackney and Haringey areas.

As a result of the assessments, one project was closed down, six prohibition notices were served and six improvement notices made.

Mike Williams, Principal Inspector for the North and East London construction division of the HSE, explained building jobs continue to represent one of the most dangerous forms of work in the UK.

Mr Williams stated, "We are very concerned at the number of small sites that are failing to take the most basic precautions to protect workers and members of the public."
