Broken pelvis to result in damages claim 2410

An accident at work that resulted in a man sustaining a broken pelvis could lead to him seeking personal injury compensation for his ordeal.

Denis Cronin fractured his pelvis in three places while carrying out work at premises owned by Benchmark Fabrication - which provides services across the UK and Europe - in Hitchin in November 2010 and was subsequently in hospital for a week.

At the time of the incident, the 40-year-old was dismantling temporary racking at the company's factory and fell a distance of around two metres when the beam he was straddling gave way.

It took Mr Cronin around three months to fully recover from his injuries and being as his employer has now admitted breaching health and safety regulations, he could be entitled to a compensation award.

Graham Tompkins of the Health and Safety Executive commented: "Climbing warehouse racking is extremely dangerous - the managers at Benchmark should have been aware of this and provided the appropriate equipment."
