Young girl set for compensation after school injury
A young girl is to get compensation from her local council severing part of her finger in a fire door at her school.
Kaitlin Gregson, six, was attempting to go outside at Hetts Lane Primary in Warsop last year when the door was slammed shut by the wind, trapping her left ring finger and resulting in the tip of it being severed.
Ice pops were used to preserve the fingertip as she went to King's Mill Hospital to be treated, although it could not be sewed back on and stitches had to be used instead.
Solicitors told Kaitlin's family that a school fire door should not be able to close with enough force to cause such an injury.
Nottingham county council eventually admitted liability and the amount of compensation to be awarded will be assessed shortly.
The council's Children and Young People's Services department covers 182,000 children and young people in the county.
