Workplace accidents lead to £8k fine for Norwich's Crown Chicken
A company prosecuted by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) for its role in two separate accidents at work has been fined a total of £8,000.
Crown Chicken, which is based in Norwich and was established in 1993, pleaded guilty to twice breaking section 2 (1) of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 during a case at Thetford Magistrates' Court and was subsequently fined £4,000 for each breach.
The first instance took place in July 24th when an employee tore the flesh off the back of his hand while using one of the firm's machines to de-skin poultry carcasses.
During this ordeal, the worker's glove became caught in the appliance and consequently completely ripped away the skin from his knuckle to his wrist.
Meanwhile, another incident in December of the same year saw a man have one of his fingers severed after his hand was crushed in the operating mechanism of a fork left truck.
