Worker who suffered broken bones may seek compensation
A worker who sustained broken bones while performing his duties for his employer may sue.
Raymond Morris was standing in the yard area of portable toilet hire firm Elliott in June 2008 when the incident occurred.
He was struck by a reversing fork-lift truck, causing him to suffer multiple fractures to his right foot.
Recently, the firm was fined after admitting it had breached regulations designed to protect workers from such incidents.
An investigation conducted by the Health and Safety Executive revealed the depot's yard - which is situated in the Hertfordshire town of Stevenage - had been poorly designed and the view of drivers was obstructed.
Inspector at the organisation Rauf Ahmed said: "This incident could and should have been prevented. Workplace transport is a priority area for health and safety and workers being hit by reversing vehicles is a well-known danger."
He added that firms must ensure the interaction between moving vehicles and pedestrians in the workplace is well managed.
