Worker 'may sue over hand injuries'
A worker may take legal action in a bid to secure compensation as a result of injuries he sustained while performing his duties.
Earlier this year, a girder being unloaded from a crane on to a heavy goods vehicle fell and crushed the man's right hand, the Dunferline Press reports.
During a recent hearing at Dunfermline Sheriff Court, Babcock - which is an engineering support services firm with roots tracing back 120 years - pleaded guilty to a charge under section three of the Health and Safety at Work Act.
The driver had to spend eight weeks in hospital to receive treatment for the damage he suffered as a result of the accident.
While there, he had to undergo a number of surgical procedures.
Health and Safety Executive inspector Mac Young said: "[Babcock] failed to provide and maintain a safe system of work for lifting and moving steel plates and [it] failed to provide adequate supervision of steel plate lifting operations."
