Worker may sue over fall from height

news image A worker may take legal action in a bid to secure compensation after he suffered injuries in a fall from height.

Matthew Morgan was sub-contracted to Anglian Water Services when the accident occurred.

He was taking a reading from a rain gauge on top of a pumping station when he fell through an unmarked fragile roof light.

The technician tumbled to the ground below, suffering injuries to his back as a result.

A subsequent investigation conducted by the Health and Safety Executive - which serves to protect people from risks that arise as a result of workplace activities - found that there were problems with a number of machines at the site.

Inspector at the organisation Penny Leede said: "Incidents like Mr Morgan's fall are entirely avoidable. Falling from height is one of the most obvious and well-known dangers for those working on roofs."

She added that more than 4,000 employees suffered injuries after such accidents in 2008-09.
