Worker may sue over back injury
A worker may seek compensation after he suffered injuries to his back while performing his duties.
In December 2008, Danny Langdon was on top of a factory when he fell through a roof light.
He tumbled seven metres, hitting a gantry crane and landing on machinery below.
As a result, he sustained damage to his vertebrae.
In a new development, his employer was fined £10,000 after it admitted to breaching health and safety regulations.
Commenting on the incident, John Berezansky from the Health and Safety Executive - which serves to reduce the risks to people's wellbeing that arise as a result of workplace activities - said it was "entirely avoidable".
He added: "Working at height is one of the most obvious and well-known dangers for those involved in [the] repairing or maintenance of buildings."
Mr Berezansky went on to state that more than 4,000 staff members suffered serious injuries as a result of falling in 2008-09.
