Worker may seek compensation over partial amputation

news image A man who had to undergo a partial amputation of his leg may seek compensation for his suffering.

The 46-year-old, who asked not to be named, was working at a tipping bay for WSR Recycling when the accident took place last year.

He was struck by an 18-tonne Volvo L110E articulated shovel loader and the vehicle crushed his limb.

Since the accident, the firm has been fined £10,000 for breaching safety rules.

Investigating inspector for Health and Safety Executive Chris Goddard said: "This worker has suffered a life-long injury as a result of a tragic incident and was very fortunate not to have been killed."

He added that the individual was run over by a heavy vehicle and the damage he suffered could have been worse.

According to the executive, there were a total of around 246,000 reportable injuries over the course of 2008-09, which was a fall on the 299,000 recorded during the previous 12 months.
