Worker injured in fall 'may seek compensation'

In January last year, Dean Lightowler fell from the roof of a building at Park Farm in York while fitting fibre-cement sheeting.

A subsequent investigation conducted by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) - which aims to protect employees, as well as members of the public, from dangers to their health - culminated in the prosecution of TMN Fabrications.

It was found that the organisation breached the law and a fine was imposed.

The firm had failed to provide adequate edge-protection, nets or suitable work platforms for staff members.

Inspector at the HSE Geoff Clark commented: "I hope today's prosecution reminds companies that inadequate protection when working at height is unacceptable."

When standards are not adhered to and risks are posed concerning the safety of employees, the executive will take action, he added.
