Women receive compensation over back injuries
Two women who suffered back injuries, as well as damage to their necks, have been awarded compensation.
Jessica Oseland and Alison Foxal were at a fairground in May 2006 when the incident occurred.
The women decided to go on a ride called The Orbiter, which was 27 years old and involved spinning cars connected by poles to a central bar.
Shortly after the experience began, the section they were strapped into broke off the pole holding it and flew through the air, hitting a fast food stall.
Both Ms Oseland and Ms Foxal needed hospital treatment as a result of the impact.
In a new development, the owner of the ride and Fairground Inspection Services were fined for safety breaches and ordered to pay damages.
The Health and Safety Executive - which serves to protect people from risks that arise as a result of workplace activity - found shortcomings from both parties.
