Woman sues after being hit by advertising sign

news image A woman is seeking compensation after she was struck by an advertising sign.

On a windy day in December 2008, Lucille Smith was walking along a street in Edinburgh when the article hit her in the back, the Edinburgh Evening News reports.

The 63-year-old sustained a fracture and a dislocated left shoulder as a result of the impact, which caused her to fall to the ground in Hanover Street - located just off the city's main shopping area of Princes Street.

She is taking legal action against the Forrest Group, which had erected the sign on a shop front.

According to Ms Smith, if the company had exercised reasonable care for the safety of those using public streets, it would have ensured the sign did not blow away in such conditions.

The Forrest Group denies liability and maintains that there were no issues with stability prior to the accident.
