Woman seeks compensation over burns
A woman who suffered chemical burns while being treated in a salon is seeking compensation.
Stephanie Davies-Crowley was a customer at a studio in Hitchin in the lead up to her wedding when the incident occurred.
She was having her hair chemically straightened and then dyed.
The mixture of chemicals used on her while her tresses were being coloured caused her to experience severe burns.
So serious were her injuries that she had to be taken to hospital suffering from toxic shock.
According to the NHS, this happens when bacteria which normally live harmlessly on the skin invade the body's bloodstream and release poisonous toxins.
Ms Davies-Crowley alleges that the salon was negligent in its treatment of her and claims staff there failed to perform a test patch before applying the chemicals.
She also suggests that the dye was used too soon after the chemical straightening had taken place.
The firm denies the claims and the legal case remains ongoing.
