Woman seeks compensation over alleged asbestos exposure

news image A woman who claims her illness was caused by exposure to asbestos is seeking compensation.

Barbara Larimore, who has mesothelioma, believes she developed the condition because she came into contact with the work clothes of her father, William, the Derby Evening Telegraph reports.

He had worked as a bricklayer for Leys Malleable Castings between 1937 and 1968 and his role involved dealing with asbestos products.

Ms Larimore remarked: "I used to help my mother to wash father's dirty work clothes. I would stand on my parents' back step and shake out the dust before washing them."

She added that it "horrifies" her that by performing this task, she was risking sickness later in life.

The 73-year-old, who was diagnosed in 2008, needs people who knew about conditions at Leys Malleable Castings to come forward to help her case.

As well as mesothelioma, asbestos dust can cause conditions such as pleural plaques and asbestosis.
