Woman receives compensation over fall injuries
A woman who suffered a fall has been awarded compensation, it has emerged.
The individual, who has not been named, was walking near Carlisle Castle when she tumbled into the moat, the News & Star reports.
As a result of the incident, she sustained damage to her pelvis and hips.
She subsequently took legal action and eventually received £15,000.
Owners of the estate English Heritage came to an out-of-court settlement with her under which it agreed to pay the sum.
The organisation also said it would cover the costs of her legal fees.
A spokeswoman from English Heritage said: "The health and safety of visitors to our properties and sites is extremely important and we do have an extremely good safety record."
The body is the government's statutory advisor on the historic environment and it is funded by the state and money earned from its properties.
In 2008-09, its public subsidies amounted to £132.7 million.
