Woman receives £27k payout after slipping in store
A woman who slipped while in a Marks & Spencer (M&S) store in Bath has been awarded a payout of £27,500.
Jeanette Plummer was in the food hall of the retail outlet in October 2005 when she stood on two loose grapes and fell to the ground.
She sustained a serious shoulder injury as a result of the incident and requires a shoulder joint replacement operation.
The 62-year-old was recently awarded the sum in an out-of-court settlement with M&S, a UK retailer which claims to have around 21 million consumers visit its stores each week.
She said: "The fall has really had an effect on my life. I'm now restricted as to what I can do. I'm really glad to get the compensation money."
Meanwhile, an M&S spokesperson said that the safety of consumers is considered to be a "priority", adding that the company is pleased the matter has been resolved.
The case remains ongoing.
