Woman may seek compensation over knee injuries
A woman who slipped and suffered damage to her knee may seek compensation.
Earlier this year, Pauline Batt visited a pub run by landlord Richard Jenkins with some friends, the North Devon Journal reports.
She left the premises and, as she stepped outside, she lost her footing on a disabled access ramp and fractured her knee.
According to bar manager Julie Squires, a handrail which was supposed to be next to the slope had been missing for weeks.
The incident was reported to North Devon Council, which is headquartered in Barnstaple.
During a recent hearing, a judge handed Mr Jenkins a fine of £2,000 and ordered him to pay costs of £718.
Any compensation claim will now be pursued through the civil courts.
Mr Jenkins stated: "Unfortunately I had my eye off the ball for a few weeks. I should have made sure the slope was covered by a barrier and I didn't."
He added that he has spoken to Mrs Batt and apologised to her for her suffering.
