news image A woman who was left with severe disabilities as a result of a road accident has secured compensation of more than £400,000.

Ex-postal worker Louise Balsom was driving her car an on the A361 in Daventry, which is situated in Northamptonshire, when she was hit by another vehicle from behind, the Northampton Chronicle & Echo reports.

Aged 36 at the time, she sustained whiplash to her neck, shoulders and back and went on to develop fibromyalgia, a chronic pain condition which is said to be unlikely to get better.

Fibromyalgia affects sufferers' muscles, tendons and ligaments and results in widespread pain.

During a recent hearing at Northampton county court, recorder Timothy Clark awarded her a payout of £419,000 for loss of earnings and general damages.

Ms Balsom now uses a motorised scooter and wheelchair to get around and said that the money she receives will be used to fund the care she will require for the rest of her life.
