Woman issued compensation over workplace injuries

news image A woman has received £36,000 in compensation for injuries she suffered while at work last year.

In March 2008, the individual - who has not been named - was performing her role as a night-time forecourt cashier at Roadchef Motorway Services when she was caught up in an attempted robbery.

She was pushed by one of the individuals and fell backwards, hitting her knee and she needed steroid injections to help with the pain.

In addition, the 69-year-old required physiotherapy.

Roadchef Motorway Services - which has operations across the UK and is headquartered in Staffordshire - admitted liability for the incident.

It acknowledged that it had failed to ensure its employees were safe from this type of incident.

The firm's chief executive Simon Turl said: "Roadchef regards the safety and security of our colleagues as a priority and does everything it can to protect them."

He added that it is "saddened" that one of its workers was injured.
