Woman criticises pleural plaques compensation decision

news image A woman whose husband was exposed to asbestos through his work has criticised the government's decision not to overrule a Law Lords decision to deny people with pleural plaques compensation.

Recently, justice minister Jack Straw revealed that anyone with the condition who put in a claim affect 2007 would not receive a £5,000 sum.

The move has angered many of those in communities affected by the hazardous insulating material.

Lynne Bragger, whose husband Peter died last month from asbestosis after initially being diagnosed with pleural plaques is among those urging the Labour administration to reconsider, the Barking and Dagenham Post reports.

She said that the money her late spouse received when he discovered he had condition - which is a form of scarring on the outer lining of the lungs - helped keep him going .

Ms Bragger added: "I don't know how other families are expected to cope without it."
