Woman awarded £1k compensation after dog attack
A woman has been awarded £1,000 in personal injury compensation after she was attacked by a dog in a park in Manchester.
According to the Manchester Evening News, Nadine Jerome suffered a permanently-scarred leg after Natalie Cunningham's mastiff canine attacked her in the public area in the Cheetham Hill region of the city.
Ms Jerome was consequently awarded £1,000 in damages during a trial at Manchester Magistrates Court after Ms Cunningham had pleaded guilty to having a dangerous dog out of control in a public place at a previous hearing.
The incident, which occurred in May of this year, left the victim hospitalised for one week and the offending dog will now be put down following a court order.
Ms Jerome described the attack as "horrific" and added that she "[still has] nightmares about it".
Meanwhile, it was revealed recently that the government is being lobbied by several interest groups and charities who want the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 to be updated.
