Wife of workplace accident victim secures compensation
A woman whose husband was the victim of a workplace accident has received compensation.
Maureen Bell was issued money in an out-of-court settlement with Turners, a privately owned transport firm which employs around 1,300 people across the country, the News & Star reports.
The sum has not been revealed, although it is said to be significant.
It was paid in relation to an accident which occurred in April 2007 when her husband, Mansel, was cleaning a lorry.
The 64-year-old fell from the top of the vehicle and suffered injuries to his head as a result.
Mr Bell died in hospital two months after the incident.
Commenting on her husband's case, Ms Bell said: "Mansel loved his work and had washed down his tanker a thousand times before. It was essential to wash off the cement otherwise it would damage the tanker."
She added that a gantry should have been in place to make the procedure safer for drivers.
