Widow of mesothelioma victim seeks compensation

news image The widow of a man who died from the asbestos-related cancer mesothelioma is seeking compensation.

As part of her legal battle, Christine Clayton is trying to track down his former colleagues from Lucas Aerospace, the Birmingham Mail reports.

Her late spouse, John, had been employed at the firm for two decades.

An inquest following his death confirmed he had been exposed to asbestos fibres but ruled there was no clear evidence to show where he had come into contact with the substance.

Commenting on her loss, Ms Clayton said: "John's death came as a huge shock. We had been planning to do so much during our retirement in Cornwall."

A legal representative acting on her behalf noted that because the link between Mr Clayton's death and asbestos was only made after he passed away, his widow now faces a difficult task of "putting the pieces together".

The couple met while working at Lucas Aerospace in the 1960s.

As well as mesothelioma, exposure to asbestos can result in conditions such as pleural plaques and asbestosis.
