Tourists seek compensation over sickness
A number of tourists who were struck down with sickness while in Tenerife are seeking compensation for their suffering.
They were staying in a four-star hotel on the Canary Island off the coast of Africa when they contracted a vomiting bug, the Daily Mail reports.
One of those present at the Barcels Santiago hotel was 62-year-old Tony Gensler, whose vacation was cut short after he and his wife, Annette, needed medical treatment.
They were experiencing diarrhoea, vomiting and weight loss due to norovirus - which the NHS states affects between 600,000 and one million people in the UK every year.
He remarked: "The food at the hotel restaurant was like school dinners and we could smell sewage in our room, which the hotel staff came to investigate but the problem persisted."
Mr Gensler added that they are still suffering from symptoms now and their holiday was ruined as a result of the outbreak.
