Those who suffer sickness on holiday 'may be eligible for compensation'
Individuals who suffer illness while on holiday may be able to secure compensation for their suffering, it has been pointed out.
According to an MK News article, sickness caused by poor hygiene standards is quite common.
It drew attention to one case involving a woman referred to as Sheila, who contracted gastroenteritis while abroad on a Nile cruise.
She continued to feel unwell for months after returning from her trip and visited medical professionals for examination.
It subsequently emerged that she had developed Chron's disease, which is a chronic condition that causes inflammation of the lining of the digestive system.
Its symptoms include diarrhoea, abdominal pain and fatigue.
She still suffers from complications caused by the disease and has been able to obtain "substantial compensation" after contacting a solicitor who specialised in holiday claims.
According to the NHS, for every 100,000 people in the UK, there will be seven new cases of Chron's disease each year.
