Slips, trips and falls contribute to council's compensation bill
A local authority shelled out hundreds of thousands of pounds over the last five years as a result of compensation claims.
This is according to the Greenock Telegraph, which cited figures obtained via the Freedom of Information Act that showed Inverclyde Council has issued a total of £350,000 during this period to victims of personal injury and property damage.
Among these claimants are those who sustained injuries as a result of slips, trips and falls - some of which may have been caused by highway damage resulting from the harsh winter conditions seen across the UK.
In total, 225 successful legal bids for money were made during this time, the news source noted.
Council negligence to pavements, roads and paths saw individuals sustain sprains and strains, torn ligaments, broken bones and lacerations, among other things.
Inverclyde Council is run by elected councillors and is currently headed by Stephen McCabe.
The organisation is headquartered in the Municipal Buildings, Greenock.
