Scottish councils 'subject to personal injury claims of more than £10m'
New figures reveal that councils throughout Scotland have paid out more than £10 million in compensation claims for incidents such as road traffic accidents since 2007.
According to STV News, vehicles owned by local authorities north of the border are involved in approximately 15 crashes every day, meaning that personal injury damages claims are common in the country.
The news agency obtained data suggesting that just over £10.2 million has been spent by these councils over the last three-year period for injuries caused by 16,268 road traffic accidents nationwide.
Many of the damages awarded throughout the timeframe were relatively small settlements. For example, North Ayrshire council paid just over £14,500 when one of its gritting vehicles slipped on ice and hit a nearby lorry.
However, other incidents could result in larger claims, such as the instance whereby the council in Glasgow - which has the largest population of any urban area in the country - could have to pay £110,000 in personal injury damages for an accident in 2007.
