Postman secures £3k compensation over hand injuries

news image A postman who suffered damage to his hand has been awarded compensation of £3,000.

Dennis Coleman trapped his finger in a letter box and had to go to an accident-and-emergency department, the Daily Mail reports.

The 52-year-old subsequently took legal action, claiming that the incident meant he missed out on cash-prize darts tournaments.

He commented: "The cut was deep and pouring with blood. I had three stitches and my hand was badly swollen and extremely painful."

According to the postman, he was unable to take part in competitions for four months.

Homeowner Martin Welch agreed to issue money to Mr Coleman before the case went to court in order to avoid potentially higher costs.

Meanwhile, a manager at Royal Mail - which is set to raise its postal prices from April this year - said it had not been approached by its worker or by Mr Welch in connection with the accident.
