Plasterer seeking £50k damages from council

Edinburgh City Council is being sued for £50,000 in personal injury compensation by a plasterer who sustained a shoulder injury during an accident in a public place.

According to the Scotsman, plasterer Warren Anderson was carrying out work for Cornhill Builders - a firm with an annual turnover of around £10 million - at James Gillespie's High School in the Marchmont district of the city in August 2010 when one of the building's gates fell on top of him.

Mr Anderson claims he sustained a muscle strain and an injury to his shoulder because he attempted to catch the one-tonne, four-metre high structure on his back after he spotted it falling towards a woman pushing her child along the street in a pram.

He has submitted a writ to the Court of Session and is seeking damages on the basis that he had to undergo physiotherapy and take time off work as a result of this incident.
