People injured at work 'can pursue compensation'
Individuals who suffer workplace injuries are entitled to pursue compensation, it has been pointed out.
The Perthshire Advertiser states that everyone is entitled to a safe working environment.
It suggested that every year, thousands of people file personal injury claims after being hurt while conducting their duties.
"Accidents can be caused by anything from unguarded machinery or poor health and safety practices to slips and trips or being made to drive or travel in an unsafe vehicle," the publication noted.
As well as claiming for personal injuries, it is possible to seek money for loss of earnings, damage to clothing, travel expenses and home help, if it is necessary to do so.
According to figures produced by the Health and Safety Executive, there were a total of 1.2 million people in 2008-09 who were suffering from an illness they believed was caused or made worse by their current or past work.
In addition, there were 246,000 reportable injuries suffered by employees over the 12-month period.
