Pensioner makes complaint after suffering injuries in fall

news image A pensioner who suffered injuries in a fall has hit out at the state of the road on which the incident occurred.

Audrey Jones was walking along Quay Street in Ammanford when she tripped over a block, the South Wales Guardian reports.

The 81-year-old remarked: "I just went headlong. My glasses were damaged and my face is now black and blue."

Two women came to her assistance and rang for an ambulance and staff from a nearby Specsavers store also came out to help.

According to Ms Jones, the way in which the local authority has surfaced the road is a "scandal".

However, Mario Cresci from Carmarthenshire County Council - which is headquartered in County hall - said: "The pavements are inspected on a fortnightly basis and any defects are recorded and attended to as soon as possible."

People like Ms Jones may be entitled to compensation if their falls are caused by dangerous road surfaces.
