Parents seek food poisoning damages from Thomson

news image The parents of a baby who contracted food poisoning while on holiday are seeking compensation from travel agent group Thomson.

According to the London Evening Standard, 15-month-old Melissa Mevlit was seriously ill during her stay at a four-star hotel resort in Morocco after she had her health affected by the Salmonella bug - which has an incubation period of between 12 and 36 hours and can be fatal to young children - in September of this year.

The family were staying at the Royal Atlas hotel in the African nation and believe that Melissa consumed an item of food that had not been thoroughly reheated.

Ediz and Jenny Mevlit, the child's parents, told the news source that they had also suffered mild stomach cramps, but added they "genuinely feared" for the health of their daughter as she had a fever as well as vomiting and diarrhoea".

Meanwhile, Thomson refused to comment on the case.
