Parents of disabled child to receive payout
The parents of a child who has been left with disabilities are to be awarded a payout, it has emerged.
According to reports in the Liverpool Echo, mother Pauline Loraine recently learned that Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Trust - which serves a population of around 400,000 - will not appeal a decision made by the high court to award her compensation.
Although the precise amount has not been disclosed, it is believed that it will run into millions of pounds.
Stephen Loraine was born at Arrowe Park hospital with spastic quadriplegic cerebral palsy after having been starved of oxygen in the womb.
Commenting on the development, Ms Loraine - who has four other children - said: "This will make such a difference to Stephen's life and that's all I want.
"We have no ramps and to be able to move him from room to room or get him out in the garden will be brilliant."
