Motorcyclist receives compensation over road traffic accident
A woman who was involved in a road accident has secured compensation for her suffering.
Barbara Prescott fell from her motorbike and sustained serious injuries to her knee as a result, the Braintree and Witham Times reports.
The 54-year-old had been travelling round a mini-roundabout when the incident occurred.
She alleged that the road in the area was "defective" and it was as a result of this, as opposed to an error on her part, that she careered off her bike.
In a new development, Essex County Council - which comprises 75 elected councillors and is headquartered in County Hall, Chelmsford - proved unsuccessful in an appeal against issuing money to Ms Prescott.
Commenting on the incident, she said: "It was pretty horrendous. The bike hit the stone which wobbled it uncontrollably and I came off it."
As a result of the Appeal Court's decision, she will now be awarded damages by the local authority.
