"Mega" pothole 'may lead to compensation claims'
A "mega" pothole near St Albans City station is a danger to road users and may lead to claims for compensation, it has been suggested.
According to local councillor Anthony Rowlands, the dent in the highway has been there since the middle of December and it poses a significant risk to people's safety, the Herts Advertiser 24 reports.
He has been complaining to owners of the road Network Rail since this time, although no action has yet been taken, he claimed.
"This pothole is dangerous and needs to be addressed as soon as possible before there is a serious injury to a cyclist, pedestrian or damage to vehicles," he remarked.
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Network Rail - which took over the rail network in 2002 and employs around 35,000 people - said the pothole is due to be repaired this week.
The representative added that the firm apologises for the delay in conducting the work, claiming this was because of the late delivery of materials needed to carry out the repairs.
