Man with asbestos-related illness makes compensation plea
A man who suffers from an asbestos-related illness has called for more information on when he and others like him will receive compensation.
Speaking to the Socialist Worker, Arthur Woodhead said greater clarity is required.
He remarked: "All we want is a clear date for when we will get our money."
The 63-year-old was diagnosed with pleural plaques - which is a form of scarring of the outer lining of the lungs - seven years ago.
While not all those who develop the condition go on to get other diseases such as mesothelioma, some do, the news source noted.
People who do develop the form of cancer generally die within a year of diagnosis, it went on to state.
According to the Health and Safety Executive, asbestos is the single greatest cause of work-related deaths in the UK.
There are therefore strict rules about handling the substance, which can still be found in older buildings constructed prior to the banning of its use.
