Man who suffered loss of limb at work may sue
A man who suffered a loss of limb as a result of an accident at work may seek compensation.
In June last year, the 24-year-old, who has not been named, was using a chainsaw to deal with a log which was stuck at the end of a conveyor at a wood processing plant.
He lost his balance and his right foot became caught in the revolving blades at the bottom of a box.
The individual managed to crawl out of the device and used a radio to call for help.
Prior to the incident, the man was a keen footballer and he was due to have a trial with a local football club.
He only began working for the firm 15 days before his leg injury and was on a temporary contract.
An investigation into the accident revealed that insufficient safety systems had been put in place.
According to figures produced by the Health and Safety Executive, there were a total of around 246,000 reportable injuries suffered by workers in 2008-09.
