Man who suffered broken back at work could pursue compensation claim
A man who suffered a serious back injury during an accident at work could be eligible to pursue a personal injury compensation claim against his employer.
Mark Amass, who is 41 years old, fell through a skylight while working for James Thompson Carpentry and Building, a firm based in East London, on a flat in December 2006.
As a result of his fall, Mr Amass sustained a broken back and can now only walk short distances, as well as requiring the aid of a walking stick to do so.
Medical experts have told the man - who used to play rugby and compete in the martial art of judo - that his condition will not improve in the future and he will therefore be unable to work in the construction industry again.
Mr Amass stated that the incident has "turned my life upside down", meaning that he could opt to seek damages.
This comes after the Health and Safety Executive reported earlier this year that London is now a safer place to work compared with previous years.
