Man succeeds in securing compensation over asbestos exposure

news image A man who was exposed to asbestos through his work has succeeded in his personal injury claim.

Roy Ibbs developed asbestosis because of his contact with the hazardous insulating material.

He operated as a pipe fitter for Michelin Tyres from 1969 to 1985 and, while there, he was not protected from clouds of asbestos dust.

It is believed that the substance lined the pipes he maintained.

Recently, his former employer was ordered to pay him £23,000 for his suffering.

The sum was awarded during a hearing at the High Court in London and it subsequently emerged that Michelin had offered £20,000 as an attempt to settle the case before it reached this stage.

One of a number of conditions caused by the material, asbestosis results in a stiffening of the lungs, which in turn causes bouts of breathlessness.

Among the other health complaints associated with asbestos are pleural plaques and mesothelioma.
