Man seeks compensation over neck and head injuries
A man from east Belfast has blamed a passing plane for the neck and head injuries he sustained from dislodged roof tiles.
Dan Melrose stated a low-flying aircraft landing in George Best Belfast City Airport caused slate to come away from a nearby property and hit him on his back at around 22:00 BST.
Speaking to the Belfast Telegraph, he said he is "100 per cent convinced" the damage resulted from the plane's proximity to houses.
However, a spokeswoman for the airport - which was opened for commercial traffic in 1983 and caters for more than 2.5 million passengers a year - responded to Mr Melrose's claims by saying: "The airport's track monitoring system has been examined and found that the aircraft in question was not low-flying and was approaching the airfield in a normal and uniform manner."
She went on to explain the hub has repaired the damage caused to the roof as a gesture of goodwill.
