Man seeks compensation over illness abroad

news image A man who experienced illness abroad is seeking compensation for his suffering.

Neville Fisher was left with vomiting and diarrhoea after staying at the Hotel Los Gigantes in Tenerife, WalesOnline reports.

The 78-year-old was diagnosed with salmonella when he returned from the destination.

He is now among a group of people taking legal action against Thomson over claims the holiday firm did not ensure proper hygiene standards were enforced.

It is also suggested that the company did not provide sufficient information about the outbreak of the illness.

Mr Fisher remarked: "I felt unwell for about a week. I had a swollen abdomen and headaches for a while afterwards."

He added that people were being sent to the hotel and becoming sick "long before" he went there and alerts should therefore have been provided.

According to the Food Standards Agency, there are around 850,000 cases of food poisoning each year in the UK.
