Man secures compensation over workplace hand injury
A man who sustained damage to his hand due to workplace activities has been successful in his bid to secure a payout.
The 56-year-old, who was employed as a welder, was diagnosed with hand arm vibration syndrome and carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) after experiencing problems.
One of the most common conditions affecting the nerves in the hand, CTS causes pain, numbness and a burning or tingling sensation and its symptoms range from mild to severe.
Despite exhibiting signs of the medical conditions, he was not removed from his job immediately but rather continued to perform his role for a further 18 months.
The worker said: "I've now had surgery on my hands, which has helped, but the condition restricts what I can do, especially during the winter. When the weather is cold my hands go numb."
It has been challenging finding a job because he can no longer do the work he has always done and was trained to do, he added.
