Man scarred in workplace accident seeks compensation

news image A man who was left scarred as a result of an accident at work is seeking compensation.

In June 2008, Dean Moore was performing his role at FMC Chemicals on the Wirral when he suffered a chemical burn to his face and neck.

The 39-year-old, who was on a temporary contract at the time, was using steam to unblock pipes and it is claimed that he had not received adequate training.

It was assumed that chemicals that had been present had been cleared, when in fact they had not.

For this reason, Mr Moore came into contact with the substances, which he said was like having a scalding cup of tea poured on him, only 1,000 times worse.

He added: "I've been permanently scarred and was in a lot of pain for six months after it happened and suffered from depression and anxiety."

FMC Chemicals has already received a fine from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and now a civil legal case has been launched.

According to the HSE, a total of around 246,000 reportable injuries were suffered by UK workers in 2009-09.
