Man may take legal action over workplace injuries
A man who sustained injuries while at work may seek compensation for his suffering.
In September 2007, Stephen James was performing his role directing cranes for John Doyle Construction when he was struck by steel beams which had fallen from above him.
The 58-year-old had slung 20 of the beams on to two chains attached to a tower crane to be moved across the site.
As the load was lowered, it hit a piece of reinforcing bar and the beams slipped from the chains holding them in place.
Mr James suffered damage to his right arm and leg, as well as to his head.
Commenting on the case, Health and Safety Executive (HSE) inspector Monica Babb said: "The terrible injuries Mr Dawson suffered in this incident should and could have been avoided."
An investigation conducted by the HSE - which serves to protect people from risks that arise as a result of workplace activities - found that the lift was not carried out in a safe manner.
