Man may sue over soft tissue injuries
A man who suffered soft tissue injuries while at work may seek compensation.
In October 2008, Gareth Keal was working on a tractor-mounted bulb harvesting machine at the University of Warwick's horticultural research site in Kirton when he was dragged into the device up to his shoulder.
The 28-year-old suffered damage to his right arm as a result of the accident.
His muscles, tendons and ligaments were all affected and he required physiotherapy for 18 months.
It has been ruled that both Standen Engineering and the university contravened safely rules.
The Health and Safety Executive - which is chaired by Judith Hackitt - found failures has been committed by both organisations in relation to the incident.
Inspector at the organisation Scott Wynne remarked: "Both suppliers and users must ensure that dangerous parts are adequately guarded to prevent access and to ensure that workers, like Mr Keal, are not put at risk."
