Maintenance worker to receive injury compensation
A maintenance worker is in line to receive compensation over injuries he suffered.
Michael Ashford was conducting his duties as a scaffolding supervisor at Fawley refinery when he fell, This Is Hampshire.net reports.
The 49-year-old was being guided through a dimly-lit part of the complex when he tumbled more than 25ft down a duct.
As a result of the incident, he sustained multiple fractures to his right leg, ankle and shoulder.
Mr Ashford decided to take legal action against the refinery's owner, Esso Petroleum.
In a new development, the firm - which is part of the Exxon Mobil Corporation - has agreed to issue money.
It accepted 80 per cent liability in a settlement, meaning a scheduled four-day trial will not have to take place.
While the amount Mr Walker will receive has not yet been revealed, it is thought it will be significant.
Judge McKenna remarked: "I think it's a sensible result. I'm happy to make an order in those terms."
