London Underground to face £20,000 fine after woman suffers head injury?
The London Underground could face a fine of £20,000 after a woman was injured at one of its stations.
According to the London Evening Standard, a female was hit in the face by a canvas cover that had become partly detached from a train as she stood on the platform at Mile End station during the morning rush hour in November 2009.
The newspaper reports that the woman suffered a head injury involving a cut eye and a two-inch gash after she was struck by the article, which flew up from the vehicle as it travelled at around 30 mph.
Following the incident - which comes after on from two other similar instances recently - the Underground apparently plans to plead guilty to breaching the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and could therefore face a fine of up to £20,000.
Meanwhile, two other woman were also hurt during the accident, meaning that the body - which serves one billion journeys annually - may face further legal action.
