Injured man allowed to pursue compensation claim after accident at work

news image A 52-year-old agency worker who was injured while trying to adjust a docking ramp in a West Yorkshire warehouse may now launch a compensation claim.

Paul Gelder's employer, UPS (Supply Chain Solutions), admitted a breach of health and safety rules and was fined £25,000 for the accident at work, plus £10,000 in costs, reports the Yorkshire Evening Post.

It told Leeds Crown Court that it failed to adequately ensure staff were not exposed to risk.

Mr Gelder, who can now pursue a civil claim, sustained a ruptured bladder, two fractured hips and a fractured pelvis when he lost his footing and became trapped between the wall and a reversing lorry.

An official from the company said there was no documentation to prove Mr Gelder - of East Ardsley - had received health and safety training.

The news comes days after a home improvement company was prosecuted for failing to adhere to safety regulations.

Viewline Northwest admitted to the breach and was fined £5,000, as well as £2,274 in costs.
