Holidaymakers secure compensation over sickness
A considerable number of holidaymakers who suffered from sickness while abroad have been successful in their claims for compensation.
This is according to a Self-catering-breaks.com report, which suggested that nearly 300 such people who were struck down with a vomiting bug while in the Dominican Republic between November 2005 and September 2006 are to receive money.
They were staying at a hotel complex in Bahia Maimon when they contracted the condition and had booked all-inclusive package breaks with the vacation firm TUI Travel.
Of those affected by the gastrointestinal illnesses at the five-star resort, 39 were children.
In a new development, TUI Travel has agreed to pay damages to 283 of the guests who booked through it.
The firm, which is based in Crawley and employs around 50,000 people in total, agreed to issue money to those affected.
A judge said that the parties had come to a practical and sensible arrangement.
