Head injury to lead to compensation claim?

news image A serious head injury sustained during an accident at work could lead to a man pursuing a claim for compensation from his employer.

The anonymous professional was hurt while working for engineering firm Van Elle - which founded in 1984 that is now the UK's largest independent piling and ground stabilisation contractor - on the M1 in the East Midlands in September 2009.

At the time, the maintenance fitter was driving an excavator when the boom of the vehicle struck an overhead bridge, causing him to go through the open front screen and hit his head on the machinery's front blade.

Consequently, he was in a coma for two weeks and had to undergo rehabilitation for some five months after the incident.

Although the worker has now returned to his job, Kevin Wilson of the Health and Safety Executive stated he has still been left with "life-changing injuries" that were "entirely preventable".
